Snowy Owl Photography Workshop Tour | December / January / February
Sault Ste. Marie, MI and U.P. area
Adventure through the winter of northern Michigan, alongside an Award-winning wildlife photographer as your photography guide and instructor, in the greatest place in the United States for snowy owls. Some say even the best place on Earth. If it were up to us, we would go with World! The U.P. of Michigan (Upper Peninsula or UP for the locals) is world renowned for the snowy owl population during the cold weather months.
On this photography workshop & tour, designed for photographers of all levels, you will focus on producing unique snowy owl imagery while sharpening your photographic mindset and skills. There are opportunities to photograph bald eagles as well. The majority of our animal encounters will be right near the road. You may find the need to walk along the road to get into a better position, but it won't be through deep snow unless you want to do a short hike. We are never very far from the vehicle, so you can return at any time if it gets too cold. Most of the day will be spent traveling back and forth along various sections of the roads, or driving to sections where wildlife has just been spotted.
Bald Eagle Photography Tour - Southeast Iowa | January / February
Quad Cities, IA
Adventure through the winter in southeastern Iowa, alongside an Award-winning wildlife photographer as your photography guide and instructor.
On this photography tour, designed for photographers of all levels, you will focus on the majestic bald eagle, and their fight for food during the cold winter months. Activity level is mild, requiring less than 1/2 mile of walking each day. Walking on packed snow and ice may be required.
When people talk about Iowa, the term "vacation destination" isn't on many non-photographers minds. However, it is a yearly vacation spot for many photographers due to the high concentration of bald eagles along the Mississippi River. Our focus will be to capture stunning images of eagles as they soar high above, dive down from the sky to catch fish, and fight other eagles over their catch.
Osprey & Roseate Spoonbill Photography Workshop Tour | March / April / May
Vero Beach, FL, Blue Cypress Lake & surrounding areas
Want to spend April or May somewhere warm? Spend it in Florida, alongside an award-winning photographer, photographing diving and nesting osprey. Whether you are photographing the osprey diving into the ocean to catch fish, or bringing fish to the chicks that have almost fledged in the nest.
During the height of nesting season there are over 1000 birds packed into a very small area of shoreline. As the birds come back to the nest to share the catch, you will have ample opportunities to capture flying shots, landing shots, and feeding shots. The nests are located fairly low, and you will have unbelievable backgrounds for your photographs. This is one of the few spots where you can photograph osprey nests on trees, instead of man-made poles.
Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks, WY
Want to spend April/May, or September/October somewhere with abundant wildlife and amazing landscapes? Spend 6 Days in Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks, alongside an award-winning photographer. Whether you are photographing the wildlife, stunning landscapes, or amazing geothermal features, we will strive to make this a bucket list trip to remember.
This workshop and tour is offered in the Spring during April/May, and in the Fall during September/October. Both are magical seasons in Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks.
Spring offers first looks at bears coming out of their dens with cubs. An advantage of attending a spring workshop is that school is not out for the summer yet.
Autumn is when fall colors are at their peak, and animals like elk, bison, and moose are in the rutting season. Grizzly bears and wolves are in their prime, showcasing full winter coats in preparation for the first snowfall. An advantage of a fall workshop is the departure of the summer tourist crowds, leaving the park open for dedicated photographers and nature enthusiasts.
Bear Photography Workshop and Tour | July / August
Katmai National Park and Preserve, and Kodiak, AK
You will spend your summer trip, alongside an Award-winning wildlife photographer as your photography guide and instructor. Time will be spent reviewing and one-on-one instruction is the biggest benefit of this tour. You are not shipped in a huge group, with someone that is only there to herd the participants, not help them with their photography, or make sure they have a satisfying experience.
Each participant will be required to bring camping gear for the 4-night stay in Katmai National Park and Preserve. Don't worry, there is a large, designated area with campsites, bathrooms, luggage storage, food storage and is surrounded by an electric fence. If you prefer a 4-bed cabin, with heat, electricity, bathroom and shower, we need to know before January 1st. Cabin accommodations may be availability for an extra $850 per night, plus a 6% occupancy tax. That is the current rate, as posted on the Brooks Camp website. On the 5th day, we will travel to Kodiak Island to photography the Kodiak bears for 2 full days.
Bald Eagle Photography Tour - Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve | November / December
Haines, AK
The Chilkat Eagle Preserve, along the Chilkat River outside Haines, Alaska, is world famous for the incredible bald eagle gathering. The eagle counts have been as high as 3000, as they congregate to feed on the chum salmon.
Adventure through the winter in southeastern Alaska alongside an Award-winning wildlife photographer as your photography guide and instructor.
Our focus will be to capture stunning images of eagles as they soar high above, dive down from the sky to catch fish, and fight other eagles over their catch. It seems many eagles are more interested in fighting over fish, than catching one of their own. Join us for this one of a kind photographic adventure!
