10-Day Iceland 2026 Solar Eclipse Photography Workshop / Tour

Join Us in the Land of Fire & Ice for a Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience

A Personalized Approach to Iceland Photography - not a large bus, large group negative experience.

A Landscape of Light and Weather

Iceland’s dramatic scenery — glaciers, volcanoes, and rugged coastlines — is a dream for photographers. But if you're aiming to capture the upcoming eclipse on your own, weather will be your biggest variable. The island lies in the path of the North Atlantic’s main storm track and is influenced by the Icelandic Low, a persistent low-pressure system that brings frequent clouds and moisture. With our local knowledge and with the right strategy, your chances of photographing the eclipse in clear conditions can improve significantly.

What Is a Total Solar Eclipse? A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely blocks the Sun, revealing its ethereal corona and casting an eerie twilight over the landscape. For a few short minutes, you’ll witness one of nature’s most powerful and photogenic phenomena—a dream scenario for photographers.

Nature, Light & Icelandic Wonder Iceland is a land sculpted by fire and ice. From volcanic peaks and lava plains to glaciers and waterfalls, it offers endless photographic inspiration. Our itinerary includes some of the country’s most striking natural features—both famous and hidden gems—set against the seasonal beauty of late summer light.

Understanding Cloud Cover

Despite its moody reputation, Iceland is actually sunnier than the surrounding ocean. Satellite data shows average cloud cover over land is about 70–80%, while the nearby waters are even cloudier, at 80–90%. Importantly, the nature of these clouds varies: over water, cloud tends to form in large, dense layers, while over land, it's often broken and convective—meaning patches of sunlight can break through, especially with the help of terrain and daytime warming.

Let the Wind Be Your Guide

Wind direction plays a major role in shaping Iceland’s sky. This matters most on the three western peninsulas — Westfjords, Snæfellsnes, and Reykjanes—which all lie within the eclipse path.

Choosing the Best Location

We host photography workshops in Iceland twice a year, and have an immense understanding of the local weather on the three western peninsulas. We have the itinerary set based on our experience with the wind and clouds in August, but we will still make the itinerary flexible enough to make sure we have the best chances at the clearest skies.

What to Expect in August

Photographers can expect cool conditions during Icelandic August. In Reykjavík, the sun shines about 32% of daylight hours, aligning with the 71% average cloudiness measured from space. Daytime highs typically sit in the mid-teens (°C) / 59°F with lows in the single digits, though recent warming trends have brought occasional highs into the mid-20s (°C) / 77°F. Dress and pack accordingly, especially if you plan to be outdoors for extended periods.

Once-in-Our-Lifetime Event

The next total solar eclipse in Iceland won't happen until the year 2196!!!!

Iceland

Iceland's waterfalls, among the most impressive worldwide, including Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, and Kirkjufoss, provide dramatic photographic subjects set against basalt cliffs.
Capture Iceland’s Wild Beauty—And a Total Solar Eclipse On August 12, 2026, a Total Solar Eclipse will sweep across Iceland—and we’ll be there to photograph it from the stunning Snæfellsnes Peninsula, directly in the path of totality. This is your chance to witness and capture a rare astronomical event in one of the most photogenic locations on Earth. Our team of professional photographers has explored Iceland for over a decade, capturing its raw beauty in every season. Now, we invite you to join us on a specially curated itinerary designed around the eclipse and the best photographic opportunities Iceland has to offer.

Exploring rugged coastlines and dramatic landscapes, we'll photograph Icelandic churches, lighthouses, ancient turf roof farms, black sand beaches, sea stacks, and more. Icelandic horses and sheep grazing in open farmland add to the picturesque scenes we'll encounter.

With action-packed itineraries for the 10-Day Workshop in August 2026, our workshop visits numerous locations, including glacial lagoons, waterfalls, volcanic craters, and iconic landmarks like Kirkjufell mountain and Reynisfjara beach.

Join our Iceland photography workshop in August 2026 and embark through the Land of Fire and Ice. Book now and see Iceland's mesmerizing landscapes, seascapes, lighthouses, black sand beaches, black churches and more!

🚗 Travel
  • You won't get taken advantage of by the car rental companies on damage you can't see or can't prove didn't happen. You are at their mercy. Google the horror stories of renting vehicles in Iceland.
  • You won't have to pay the insanely expensive speeding tickets from the multitude of speed cameras around the 3 western peninsulas.
  • You won't have to figure out where to go each day. The itinerary is set, and you are free to enjoy the beautiful Icelandic countryside.

Important Notes

🛌 Lodging Notice - Due to high demand during the eclipse period, we have only two Single Supplements available, on a first-come, first-served basis. Once those are filled, all remaining rooms will be double occupancy only. Solo travelers will be matched with a roommate of the same gender if a Single Supplement is not available.

🌦 Weather Disclaimer - Iceland’s weather is famously unpredictable. While August offers some of the best conditions of the year, skies can change quickly. We’ll monitor forecasts closely and adapt as needed to give you the best possible chance for eclipse visibility and compelling photography throughout the trip. We recommend bringing gear suitable for a wide range of conditions—including wind, rain, and sun. Your safety and experience are our top priorities.

❌ This workshop will not be cancelled due to low enrollment, weather, volcanic activity, or any other events beyond our control. In the rare case that circumstances such as a volcanic eruption or global pandemic make it impossible to hold the workshop on the original dates, we will reschedule—but not cancel. If you’re concerned about your ability to adjust to a change in dates, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance (in fact, we highly recommend it for all travelers).

FLIGHTS & DOCUMENTATION

Flights to Iceland

Round-trip flights to Iceland from Europe and the United States typically range from $400 to $800. Ensure your flights are booked to or from Keflavik International Airport (KEF). To fully engage in the orientation session, we advise arriving at Keflavik before 12:00pm (noon) on the tour's starting day. Opting to arrive a day prior to the tour commencement is popular among participants. This allows for a well-rested beginning, particularly beneficial after a lengthy flight.

Documentation

Iceland adheres to the visa regulations of the Schengen Area. Depending on your nationality and duration of stay, a visa may be required. Should you encounter any complications, do not hesitate to seek guidance from us. It is imperative to ascertain the specific visa prerequisites for your country of residence before embarking on the trip.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  1. Iceland boasts the world's highest-quality cold tap water. We suggest bringing or purchasing a small reusable water bottle upon arrival, which can be refilled at hotels or any convenient spot.
  2. Wi-Fi will be accessible in all hotels. Visitors from outside Europe have the option to obtain a SIM card with data. These cards are available for purchase at the supermarket located directly across from the luggage claim area. Alternatively, prior to arrival in Iceland, you can obtain a virtual e-SIM from websites such as https://esim.holafly.com/ or similar services and activate it upon landing.
  3. Exchanging dollars for Icelandic krona within Iceland is unnecessary as credit cards are widely accepted for payments. However, if you prefer to exchange currency, facilities are available at the airport.
  4. Iceland utilizes European type C plugs. Visitors from the United States should plan to bring an adapter.
  5. Gratuities - Typically I receive 5%-15% for workshops, some tip a little less and some tip twice that amount. It just depends on people's financial situations. Most of that money goes toward tipping hotel staff and restaurant staff so you do not have to worry about carrying around cash.
