A Personalized Approach to Iceland Photography

Welcome to "The Land of Fire and Ice," where you'll capture stunning imagery of cascading waterfalls, black sand beaches, glacial ice, Icelandic horses, and more during our Iceland photography workshop. Explore both iconic and remote locations across this Nordic island nation, immersing yourself in its breathtaking landscapes.

The summer months in May, June and early July offer chances to experience the "midnight sun." This time of year gives hours and hours of twilight every day, also known as the golden hour that photographers love. Except it should be called the golden hours. With 18 1/2 - 21 1/2 hours of sunlight each day, you can visit landmarks and photograph when others are back at their hotels and tour buses are parked, with less crowds to deal with every day. During these summer months, the puffins are back on land for nesting and raising their chicks.

In the autumn months, September offers ideal conditions in Iceland, with the sun setting unlike in the summer months. The temperatures are still mild. As October rolls around, the prime opportunities to photograph the mesmerizing Aurora Borealis against captivating foregrounds are plentiful. With over 12 hours of daylight each day, there's ample time to uncover and capture Iceland's natural beauty.

Our journey takes us from the Reykjavik region along the southern coast to the Snæfellsjökull peninsula, showcasing Iceland's dramatic landscapes, glacial lagoons, massive glaciers, and immense waterfalls. Each evening, we'll monitor the weather for optimal Northern Lights photography, hoping to witness the awe-inspiring Aurora Borealis illuminating the night sky. While the Northern Lights are unpredictable, clear nights and high solar activity may treat us to vibrant displays of green and magenta hues dancing across the heavens.

Iceland's waterfalls, among the most impressive worldwide, including Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, and Kirkjufoss, provide dramatic photographic subjects set against basalt cliffs. During our workshop, we'll spend two days at Jökulsárlón glacial ice beach and lagoon, capturing the ethereal beauty of floating blue ice and dreamlike colors at the edge of the Vatnökull ice-cap. Sunrise and sunset sessions along the black sands of Ice Beach offer opportunities to photograph icebergs washed ashore by the surf.
Exploring rugged coastlines and dramatic landscapes, we'll photograph Icelandic churches, lighthouses, ancient turf roof farms, black sand beaches, sea stacks, and more. Icelandic horses and sheep grazing in open farmland add to the picturesque scenes we'll encounter.

With action-packed itineraries for the 7 Day or 11 Day Workshops in AUTUMN or SUMMER, our workshop visits numerous locations, including glacial lagoons, waterfalls, volcanic craters, and iconic landmarks like Kirkjufell mountain and Reynisfjara beach. From pre-dawn shoots to sunset sessions to northern light outings, we'll seize every opportunity to capture Iceland's diverse beauty and keep a lookout for the Northern Lights.

Join us in experiencing the contrasts of Iceland, from glaciers to black sand beaches, through the lens of your camera. Travel the famous Golden Circle, Ring Road, and much more that Iceland has to offer!!

FLIGHTS & DOCUMENTATION

Flights to Iceland

Round-trip flights to Iceland from Europe and the United States typically range from $400 to $800. Ensure your flights are booked to or from Keflavik International Airport (KEF). To fully engage in the orientation session, we advise arriving at Keflavik before 12:00pm (noon) on the tour's starting day. Opting to arrive a day prior to the tour commencement is popular among participants. This allows for a well-rested beginning, particularly beneficial after a lengthy flight.

Documentation

Iceland adheres to the visa regulations of the Schengen Area. Depending on your nationality and duration of stay, a visa may be required. Should you encounter any complications, do not hesitate to seek guidance from us. It is imperative to ascertain the specific visa prerequisites for your country of residence before embarking on the trip.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  1. Iceland boasts the world's highest-quality cold tap water. We suggest bringing or purchasing a small reusable water bottle upon arrival, which can be refilled at hotels or any convenient spot.
  2. Wi-Fi will be accessible in all hotels. Visitors from outside Europe have the option to obtain a SIM card with data. These cards are available for purchase at the supermarket located directly across from the luggage claim area. Alternatively, prior to arrival in Iceland, you can obtain a virtual e-SIM from websites such as https://esim.holafly.com/ or similar services and activate it upon landing.
  3. Exchanging dollars for Icelandic krona within Iceland is unnecessary as credit cards are widely accepted for payments. However, if you prefer to exchange currency, facilities are available at the airport.
  4. Iceland utilizes European type C plugs. Visitors from the United States should plan to bring an adapter.
